富士山、そしてキナバル山
ごつごつした岩の湖畔で水浴びをし、それから舟で漕ぎ出した。底の見えない湖を覗きこみ、オールを漕いでゆく。
岸から離れていくほどに不安と好奇心が入り混ざっていた。水の中に得体の知れない何かが潜んでいるのではないかと想像し、湖面と行く先々を見つめていた。湖の中ごろに差し掛かったあたりだろうか、ふと振り返ると、
白い頂の綺麗な三角の形をした大きな山が私の目に飛び込んできた——
これは、小さかった頃の私が富士を見た時の記憶である。その時の光景を今でもありありと思い返すことができる。
あの瞬間、時が止まったかのようだった。
不安と高揚、それから安堵感のようなもの…あの時の、言葉では例えようのない何とも言えない感覚。
私はこうした感覚を忘れないために、今でも写真行為を繰り返しているのかもしれない。
私は富士にまつわる記憶の情景を手がかりに制作を進めていく。そこには何か大切なことが潜んでいる気がする。

Mt. FUJI, snd Mt. Kinabalu
We bathed at the rugged lakeshore, then set out in a boat. Peering into the bottomless lake, we rowed onward.
The further we drifted from shore, the more anxiety mingled with curiosity. Imagining something unknown lurking beneath the water,
I kept my eyes fixed on the lake's surface and our course ahead. Somewhere near the lake's center, I glanced back suddenly,
and a large mountain, beautifully triangular with a white peak, burst into view—
This is my memory of seeing Mount Fuji as a child. I can still vividly recall that scene to this day.
In that instant, time seemed to stand still.
Anxiety and exhilaration, then a sense of relief... that indescribable feeling from back then, impossible to put into words.
Perhaps I continue taking photographs even now, to never forget these sensibilities.
I proceed with my work using the scenes from my memories of Fuji as my guide. I feel something essential lies hidden within them.
