45億6000万年に生まれたとされる原始地球。そしてその地球に海洋と大気が生まれ、表面に出現した海洋に最初の原始生命体が生まれたのは、40億年前と言われています。ただ、微惑星の衝突で海洋は何度も干上がってしまいます。そのような厳しい環境変化を遂げる海洋で、生き残った単純な微生物が今、地球上で生きる全ての生物の元祖となったのです。
海中で劇的な進化を遂げた生きものたちが陸上へ上がったのは、「シルル紀」から「デボン紀」（４億3500万年〜３億5500万年前）のこと。地球に生まれた磁場が地球の周辺に有毒な紫外線や宇宙線、太陽風をシャットアウトするオゾン層を構成し、陸上の生物たちの生命を守る条件がやっと整ったのです。植物、昆虫、鳥、そして哺乳類は２億3000万年前、人類が誕生したのはたった20万年前です。
もっとも40億年にわたる生命の歴史は、3度の「スノーボールアース」（全球凍結）、「海洋無酸素事変」、「隕石衝突」など、文字通り波瀾万丈でした。
多くの生きものたちの“生命を育むゆりかご”として進化してきた稀有なる惑星、地球。その循環や生命の法則が現在、新参者の人間の手によって、壊されようとしています。18世紀後半の産業革命以来、今世紀になって急速に進行する地球温暖化は、極地氷解による陸地の侵食を招き、海洋温度の上昇と海流の変化は、地球を一巡する大気の流れに大きな変化を与えています。
40億年にわたって、さまざまな生きものたちのレジリエンスによって支えられている地球という私たちの「住処」、そして未来世代を育む“ゆりかご”。「ecobeing」は、この大切な我が家をどのように守り、継承していくかを考える「みなさまの対話の場」でありたいと考えています。
何故なら、地球、全ての生命、そして私たち人間は「WONDER 」そのものであり、「ONENESS」の絆で結ばれているのですから…。
It is said that the primitive earth was born 4.56 billion years ago, and that the oceans and atmosphere were born on that earth, and the first primitive life forms were born in the oceans that appeared on its surface 4 billion years ago. However, the oceans dried up many times due to micro-planet collisions. In the ocean, undergoing such severe environmental changes, the simple microorganisms that survived became the ancestors of all living organisms on earth today.
It was during the “Cyrillic” to “Devonian” periods (435 million to 355 million years ago) that creatures that had undergone dramatic evolution in the ocean came to land. The magnetic field created on the earth created an ozone layer around the earth that shut out toxic ultraviolet rays, cosmic rays, and solar winds, finally creating the conditions to protect life on land. Plants, insects, birds, and mammals were born 230 million years ago, and humans only 200,000 years ago.
However, the history of life over the past 4 billion years has been literally full of ups and downs, including three global freezes (Snowball Earth), oceanic anoxic events, and meteorite impacts.
The earth is a rare planet that has evolved as a “cradle for life” for many living creatures. Since the Industrial Revolution of the late 18th century, the rapid progression of global heating in this century has led to the erosion of land due to the melting of polar ice caps, and the rise in ocean temperatures and changes in ocean currents have caused major changes in the atmospheric flow around the globe.
For 4 billion years, the earth has been our “home” supported by the resilience of many different creatures, and it is the “cradle” that nurtures future generations. We hope that “ecobeing” will be a “place for everyone to have a dialogue” about how to protect and pass on this precious home.
Because the earth, all life, and we human beings are “WONDER” itself, and we are bound together by the bond of “ONENESS”!
