ONENESS
Vol. 1 HAWAII
Our Earth has forged an exquisite set of laws through
delicate and intricate coordination and balance,
as well as through the dynamic and bold
chain of life—which stands in stark contrast to the former—
thus sustaining life.
Junji TAKASAGO has traveled to various parts of the world
countless times, camera in hand,
to observe the miraculous planet—“Earth, the Source of Life”—
from both macro and micro perspectives,
documenting the diverse forms of life and the land and oceans.
Faced with these photographs—which tell a “story of life”
that radiates a grandeur and a poignancy that takes our breath away—
we now stand at a moment when we must once again
let our hearts be moved and confront this story head-on.
“What is the essence of life?”
“What is the meaning of human existence on Earth?”
When each of us reflects on these questions and chooses to live each
day with care, might we not achieve true
coexistence with all life inhabiting this planet?

Located between 19° and 29° north latitude in the northwestern to slightly southeastern part of the North Pacific, the Hawaiian Islands consist of numerous islands and atolls. In the geographical classification of the six major continents, they belong to Oceania, and within the maritime regions of Oceania, they are classified as part of Polynesia. The Hawaiian Islands, which lie in a straight line, were formed by volcanic activity driven by a hotspot and plate tectonics. Further to the northwest, a chain of submerged volcanoes forms the Hawaii-Tenno Seamounts. In 1959, the islands became the 50th state of the United States, but they continue to cherish and preserve their unique history, culture, and the “Aloha Spirit.”
